This Texas art is a colorful mix of wildflowers illuminated by a full moon just coming up over the hill as you meander down a trail not far from the Blanco river in the little hamlet of Wimberley nestled in the Hill Country of Central Texas. In the middle of April the night air is chilly, but a light jacket is enough to keep you comfortable. It is so nice to get away from the hustle and bustle of suburbia. The fresh clean air fills your lungs. The serenade of song birds has quieted down after the sunset. The sounds of the river off in the distance soothing your soul as only the movement of water can. This is your first time in Texas and according to the locals folks the weather this year has created a bumper crop of bluebonnets and assorted other wildflowers. You reflect back over the day’s drive across the devil’s backbone to Canyon Lake with it sweeping vistas looking back toward Wimberley and the masses of wildflower almost as far as the eye can see melting into the landscape because of the sheer distances of your view plane. Suddenly you’re jolted back to reality as you stumble over a rock along the path and end up, face first, in the vegetation. Looking up, your first thought is to spit out an unkind word or two but before you is this amazing scene of wildflowers literally glowing in the moonlight. You came to Texas to get up close and personal with the floral delights of this region. You just didn’t realize until this moment how true this really was going to be. |
